Zone 3: Mijas Costa: El Chaparral / La Cala de Mijas/ Riviera del Sol / Calahonda

This zone is no more than 30 minutes from Malaga airport situated. This zone can be reached via bus lines or a taxi / bus from the train station in Fuengirola.

The collective name for this region is Mijas Costa, the coastal region belonging to the picturesque white mountain village of Mijas.

The two large urbanisations, Sitio de Calahonda and Riviera del Sol are 2 locations that actually form 2 large villages and have all facilities such as commercial centers, supermarkets, golf courses, sports centers, bars and restaurants for every day. Many British and other foreign residents live here permanently and in the summer it is also very popular with holidaymakers staying in hotels and rented homes. Due to the large number of English-speaking residents and visitors, it is easy to find English medical centers and most people speak English.

La Cala de Mijas was originally a picturesque fishing village and to this day it still has a charming village center . An ideal and popular location because it is completely flat and everything can be done on foot or by bike.

El Chaparral / La Cala de Mijas/ Riviera del Sol / Calahonda

Mijas Costa covers 12 kilometers and includes El Chaparral, La Cala, El Bombo, Riviera del Sol, Torrenueva and Calahonda, respectively from East to West. The area is a major tourist hub because of the commercial centers, supermarkets, golf courses, sports centers, bars and restaurants. The beaches are connected by the Senda Litoral a walking path along the sea.

There are a number of restaurants in La Cala de Mijas and Mijas Costa, with spectacular views of the sea from the dining table. Expect good, fresh fish and seafood as well as delicious tapas dishes while you sit on a terrace enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Due to the number of English residents you can also find many good Indian restaurants such as Masala and Sai Indian.. Recommended for fish and seafood is La Kala Beach with beautiful views over the bay of La cala de Mijas and typical spanish dishes can be found in Venta el Jinete.. El Oceano Hotel & Restaurant, MaxBeach and Olivia's are modern and trendy bars / restaurants and also have live entertainment on certain days. In this zone you have more than enough choice to enjoy a delicious dinner in every world kitchen or budget.

There is a water park at sea, Costa water park and next to the annual feria, the weekly markets you can go to Mijas Pueblo and make your own chocolate at Mayan Monkey Mijas,, the world's smallest chocolate factory, very popular because they organize workshops for children adults. This zone is primarily focused on beach life and golf.

On a mountain slope 400 meters above sea level and about 10 km from the coast you will find the picturesque white mountain village of Mijas Pueblo. From the "mirador" viewpoint in Mijas Pueblo you have an impressive view over the entire coast. The historic center of Mijas Pueblo has a typical Andalusian architecture: small narrow streets with whitewashed houses where bars, restaurants, bodegas and souvenir shops with handmade ceramics, leather articles and traditional Spanish jewelry are everywhere. Places of interest include Plaza de la Constitución, chapel of the Virgen de la Peña (Virgin of the Rock), The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Miniature Museum, Ethnographic Museum, bullfighting arena and of course the panoramic view of Mijas Costa and Fuengirola.

The urbanisations in this zone are actually built around the golf courses. In Mijas Costa there is the highest concentration of golf courses per square km. There are: Miraflores Golf (18 Holes), El Chaparral Golf (18 holes), Santana Golf (18 Holes), Calanova Golf (18 holes),   Cerrado de Aguila Golf  (9 holes),  La Noria(9 holes) and La Cala Golf and resort and resort with 3 x 18 Holes Golf courses! Are you a golf enthusiast or are you looking for a good rental property close to a golf complex, then this region is an absolute must. The golf courses all have a clubhouse with restaurant.
