Zone 5: Estepona /New Golden Mile/ Casares / La Duquesa / Manilva

This zone is located from 55 minutes from the airport of Malaga via the A7. However, if you take the paying AP7, you will be at the airport in 30-40 minutes. This zone can be reached via bus lines or by taxi / bus from the train station in Fuengirola. Estepona is a region as well as a bustling Spanish city.

 

Estepona & New Golden Mile 

Estepona has two EC Blue Flag beaches. Playa de la Rada for example is the centrally located and most popular beach in Estepona city. With a length of 2,630 km, this long beach offers a lot of space. Playa del Padrón, or El Padrón beach, is a popular beach in Estepona. The lush vegetation and marine life make it a well-known destination for fishermen. Playa del Cristo has a great location: it can be reached on foot from the center of Estepona. It is not the largest beach in the area and is approximately 700 meters long.

 

Plaza de las Flores de Estepona is a square in the old town center surrounded by fantastic restaurants and bars with local Spanish prices! Plaza Doctor Arce is the place to be for a coffee or a cerveza. The city is more and more upcoming and there are boutique hotels being constructed,  all in harmony with the old town. An energetic city on the rise and the diversity shows itself well in the various eateries and restaurants. The typical dishes of this region usually contain fish and seafood.

 

You will not be bored in Estepona. You can visit Selwo Adventurepark,, styled as  African safari parks with 2000 animals in semi-wild conditions, or go on a jeepsafari, ebike tour, or a buggytour for a different experience. From the large port of Estepona you can take various boat trips to the Strait of Gibraltar to spot dolphins, go sea fishing, rent a boat or catamaran or take diving lessons. Kite surfing and all other water sports can be found here, truly the maritime heart of the Costa del Sol. There is also a large playground for various age groups on the wide promenade. Mundo Mania is a children's play hall for indoor and outdoor fun!

Stroll around the historic center of Estepona where the streets are decorated with colorful flower pots on the facades. Or visit Orchidarium de Estepona:: the largest orchid garden in the world. Necropolis Prehistorica de Corominas, for history, or the Ruta de Murales Artisticos, for a route past Artwork through the city.

Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Estepona is the exhibition and congress center of Estepona. This center accommodates almost all events organized by Estepona, including product presentations, trade shows, commercial exhibitions, concerts and more.

Casares / La Duquesa / Manilva

Casares is an extremely charming, traffic-free white mountain village 15 minutes by car inland . The popular  among Belgians,  seaside town of Casares playa is located by the sea. Casares playa has wide natural beaches with a footpath all the way to Manilva.

There are different communities within the municipality of Manilva. The white village of Manilva itself is a few kilometers inland from the small fishing village on the coast known as San Luis de Sabinillas or simply Sabinillas. West of Sabinillas lies a charming marina "à la Deauville style" called Puerto Duquesa with its surrounding residential areas and golf course. Castillo de la Duquesa is an old castle that forms the end of the Puerto de la duquesa. West of the coast there are various housing developments up to Punta Chullera. After Punta Chullera one enters the province of Cadiz.

 

Casares beach can be reached in about 20 minutes from the white village, where you will find approximately 2 km of vast Blue-Flag beaches; Playa Chica, Piedra Paloma and Playa Ancha. Duquesa Port is an extremely charming marina where you can relax in the winter and summer months.

 

Due to the presence of water / river in Manilva an artisan sweet red wine is being produced  in this region that you should definitely taste. Raisins and grapes grow perfectly in this region and are characteristic for the landscape.

In Puerto de la duquesa you will find a very large selection of restaurants and bars. So you can enjoy a pastis overlooking the marina at bar La Marine.

But the entire coastline is also rich in chiringuitos. Certainly not to be missed: la sal restaurant in Casares playa, beachclub van Finca Cortesin  and Cubanga

 

A stop at Casares Village should certainly not be missed as there are many sights to be found, or a visit to the Hedionda Baths. From the village there are several hiking trails to follow that lead you to the mountains.

Also take a look at the exclusive hotel resort of Finca cortesin.. A 5 star hotel designed in a natural environment with an 18-hole golf course. This hotel exudes tranquility and luxury and also has an indoor spa. A unique location for weddings or an aperitif in 1 of the cozy corners on the terrace.
